This fried chicken sandwich is super crispy on the outside while being moist on the inside. It always hits the soft whenever I'm craving a chicken sandwich. I find that whenever I grab one from a fast-food restaurant, the chicken loses its crunch by the time I get home. So now I make them at home whenever I'm craving them. Nothing compares to a homemade fried chicken sandwich, the crunch irresistible and so addictive!

Why You'll Love This Crispy Chicken Sandwich Recipe
- No need to use a ton of oil. Since we aren't deep frying these chicken breasts, you don't require a ton of oil to fill a pot. You need around ⅓ cup for 2 chicken breasts in a pan whereas a pot for deep frying require waaaaaay more than that.
- It's SO tasty. Who doesn't love a crispy juicy chicken burger?!
- It's pretty easy to make these chicken sandwiches. You're simply pan frying chicken breasts then adding them to a burger bun. The sauce is made by mixing everything in a mason jar. You can even use store-bought honey mustard if you prefer.
Ingredients You'll Need
For the Crispy Chicken:
- chicken breasts — if you only have 2 large breasts, cut them in half lengthwise.
- flour — regular all purpose flour is fine.
- seasoning — I use salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- eggs
- panko breadcrumbs — I prefer panko crumbs to breadcrumbs.
- toppings of your choice — for my chicken burger toppings, I used lettuce, cucumber, red onions, and tomatoes but you can use whatever you'd like!
- burger buns — use whichever burger buns you'd like. Brioche buns is a household favourite.
- vegetable oil — for shallow frying the chicken breasts.
For the Homemade Honey Mustard Sauce
- Dijon mustard
- honey
- mayonnaise
- lemon juice
- garlic powder
- paprika
- white wine or apple cider vinegar
- salt and cracked black pepper
How To Make Crispy Chicken Sandwiches
- Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness. Season with half of the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Whisk the rest of the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder together with the flour and coat each breasts with the flour.
- Transfer the flour coated chicken breasts to the beaten eggs.
- Transfer the chicken breast to the panko mixed with paprika.
- Repeat coating the rest of the chicken breasts with flour, egg, and panko.
- Heat up vegetable oil, about ⅓ cup for 2 chicken breasts, in a skillet (or shallow pot) over high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the chicken in the pan not touching each other. You will have to do so in two batches, cleaning the pan surface after each batch with a paper towel.
- Cook each chicken breast for 3-4 minutes on both sides until golden brown and crispy. Remove from pan on a plate lined with paper towels to drain the excess oil.
- Make the homemade honey mustard sauce by combining all the ingredients in a mason jar. Close the lid and give it a good shake.
- Assemble the crispy chicken sandwich by spreading the honey mustard on the bottom, layering a piece of lettuce, the crispy fried chicken breasts, more honey mustard sauce, and your toppings of choice.
Recipes Variations
- To add a spicier kick to this crispy chicken sandwich, add cayenne pepper to the flour that you coat the chicken in.

Tips and Notes
- The fried chicken breasts can be kept in the fridge for 2 days but better to enjoy right away like all the fried foods.
- The honey mustard sauce will keep in the fridge for up to a week in an airtight container such as a mason jar.
- Allow the oil to get hot before you add the chicken breasts to the pan. If the oil isn't hot, the chicken will absorb extra oil and become soggy. To check, you can toss a piece of panko crumb to the oil and see if it sizzles. This ensures your fried chicken sandwich is super crispy!
- Use a splatter screen to keep oil splatters from this crispy chicken sandwich recipe minimal.
- You can toast the buns really quick in the pan with a splash of oil or butter. Toasting the buns protects them from getting soggy from the honey mustard sauce.
