Why You'll Love This Air Fryer Recipe
- It's a hands-free side dish! Once you've popped them into the air fryer, you don't have to do much other than give the basket a couple shakes.
- It's easy to make. Once you've cut up your potatoes and onions, you just have to toss them with oil and seasoning before they go into the air fryer!
- The onions are caramelized, and the potatoes are golden and crispy. I'm truly obsessed, and you'll see why once you try it!
Ingredients You'll Need
- potatoes — I use russet potatoes, but you can also use Yukon potatoes. I leave the skin on as they crisp up wonderfully, but you can always peel them. Make sure to give them a good scrub and pat dry thoroughly.
- onion — I use red onion but you can swap it for another onion if you have a yellow onion and don't want to run out to the store.
- oil — I use olive oil, but you can use any neutral oil of your choice.
- seasoning — I use salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Feel free to use what you like.
How To Make This Air Fryer Potatoes and Onions Recipe
- Add the potatoes, onions, oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to a bowl.
- Toss to combine.
- Transfer the potatoes and onions into the air fryer basket in as close to a single layer as possible.
- Air fry the onions and potatoes at 390F for 15 minutes, shaking the basket at the halfway point.
- Repeat as needed with any leftover onions and potatoes.
Recipes Variations
- For a little extra heat, you can add some cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
- Other seasoning I like are paprika, dried herbs, chili powder, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, and Italian seasoning.
Tips and Notes
- Don't cut the onions too small! If they're small, you'll end up with burnt onions.
- At the half way mark, check on the onions. If they're cooking too quickly, you'll have to pick them out early.
- Cook in two batches if needed. The more the air fryer is filled up, the longer it'll take to cook the onions and potatoes and the less crispy they'll be.
- I like to garnish with some fresh herbs such as thyme, but parsley, cilantro, or chives are great as well.
- Try to cut the potatoes as uniformly as possible so they cook evenly.
Once cooled to room temperature, store leftover air fryer potatoes and onions in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Reheat in the air fryer until warmed through.
